An's journey to studying abroad started in seventh grade, encouraged by his elder brothers' experiences in the U.S. and Canada. Inspired by his father, an economics PhD, An plans to study operations research and financial engineering. Throughout high school, he took rigorous advanced placement courses, completed six AP exams, and excelled in standardized tests, achieving an SAT score of 1530.

His application was strengthened by extensive research work. An interned at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and collaborated with institutions like the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. He took part in four research projects, with one paper on aerodynamics published in Applied Sciences (MDPI). His main application essay touched on personal growth after his mother's passing, exploring how poetry and literature complemented his scientific outlook.

An remained active in sports, playing basketball competitively, and founded a Math and Computer Science Club at his school. Christopher Segur, a teacher at Delta Global School, praised An’s achievement as significant for the school’s first graduating class, noting his ideal fit for Princeton.

An aims to finalize ongoing projects, assist school clubs, and enjoy time with family and friends before departing for the U.S. He plans to continue playing basketball until his move.
