How easy to use my EV to power my house at night?

Featured Replies

Nearly three years ago we had a small 5kw solar array installed at our house. 10 solar panels and an inverter.

I'd like to increase the number of panels and buy a battery for night time load.

I know I will need a larger inverter but I'd like to ask for thoughts on an idea I've had.

We have two EV's, both with V2L and my idea is to connect one of them to the inverter for electricity consumption at night.

Anyone who has done similar or thoughts on the idea?

Thanks for reading.

We have isolated 4 circuits with automatic transfer switches that go to a long V2L cable.

The circuits are refrigerator, master bedroom air con, internet & Master bed sockets and lastly water pump.

We could use it at nighttime but we just use it for power cuts.

Thanks for the reply. Thought of that too but as I will need a new inverter feel that plugging the 'spare' EV into the inverter is a simpler option.

Thought about it but decided easier to forget about batteries and just set the inverter to export to grid and just wind the meter back.

I can definitely recommend the PowMr 6k2 inverter for approx 6,000bht. Sold direct from Thai factory outlet with 3 year warranty. And if it goes wrong, just buy another.

People always want to make their solar install difficult, just plug the inverter into a nearby wall socket, hang a couple of sockets off the inverter in the kitchen, plug in the panels, job done. No rewiring, no install expenses, no electrical skills required.

Hi thanks for the reply. We have a Smartmeter which doesn't wind backwards and just been told no option to sell back to PEA as our setup is an old install.

Can you explain what you mean by “ plugging the spare EV into the inverter” ?

I read an article a while ago that you can plug the V2L into some hybrid inverters and then feed into the house. Can't find the article now of course but it detailed a type that accepts a feed from a small generator which is all the V2L would be really.

I got this on my list for next project now. New EV car and upgrading the system

This company is based in Phetchabun but operate all over Isaan and North. They also open up a new showroom in Udon Thani the 25 april

I’m a bit sceptical, but it sounds interesting

@edwinchester

I've been powering my house from my EVs for a couple of years now. I have a series of 3 videos on my channel explaining the process. Here is the main video with links to the other 2 in the description

Thanks very much for posting your video link, just the type of setup I'm looking for.
