Pollution Worsens Across 42 Provinces as PM2.5 Levels Climb

Air quality deteriorated sharply across Thailand, with unsafe PM2.5 levels reported in 42 provinces spanning the north, northeast and central regions. Morning readings on April 15 showed severe pollution in multiple areas, with northern provinces recording concentrations as high as 201.1 microgrammes per cubic metre. The northeast also faced hazardous conditions, while central and western provinces posted readings above recommended thresholds in many locations. Bangkok and the surrounding areas were affected too, though at lower levels than the worst-hit northern zones. Forecasters said some areas around the capital may improve from April 17, but warned that pollution could continue rising in central, western and northern provinces over the following week.
