Vietnam will participate in international clinical trials of mRNA-based cancer vaccines starting in 2026, according to the Health Minister Dao Hong Lan. This decision is aimed at enhancing its capabilities in advanced biomedical research and treatment. Vietnam will collaborate with countries like Russia and France in these trials, emphasizing next-generation vaccines, particularly those utilizing mRNA technology for cancer treatment.

Currently, Vietnam is working on increasing its domestic vaccine production through technology transfer agreements. One such agreement involves a collaboration with the Tam Anh General Hospital and the French pharmaceutical firm Sanofi to produce vaccines using French technologies. These vaccines include a six-in-one combination vaccine, an influenza vaccine, and a meningococcal vaccine.

Moreover, the health sector is advancing in developing therapies such as CAR-T cell therapy and stem cell therapy through collaboration with Japan. The integration of artificial intelligence in medical practice, particularly in gene sequencing for cancer treatment and prenatal screening, is also underway. These efforts aim to enhance personalized medical approaches and the use of modern technology like 3D in orthopedic treatments.

To ensure these developments are successful, Vietnam is focusing on building high-quality human resources in the medical field. Initiatives include a proposal to invest in five key medical universities, which is expected to be submitted for government approval in 2026. The proposal seeks to standardize professional competency frameworks within the healthcare sector.
