Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, 37, has been charged with evading taxes on VND835 billion (USD 32 million) earned from online sales of luxury goods in Hanoi. Two suppliers, Ngo Quoc Phu and To Lan Phuong, are also charged in the case. This follows a large-scale investigation by Hanoi tax authorities revealing Huong's unregistered e-commerce business.

Between 2020 and June 2025, Huong marketed pre-owned luxury items such as watches, handbags, and diamonds via her Facebook page, "Hycloset – New things by hy." She reportedly bypassed tax obligations by managing transactions through personal bank accounts. Police raids uncovered evidence including cash, documents, and luxury goods linked to her operations.

Huong allegedly avoided paying VND8.3 billion in value-added tax and VND4.1 billion in personal income tax. Her husband has made a restitution payment of VND12.2 billion. The investigation identified her suppliers, Phu and Phuong, through bank records associated with significant transactions.

Phu, who allegedly used his daughter's Facebook account to mask his sales activities, sold goods worth VND28.8 billion to Huong while evading taxes of VND433 million. Phuong was also accused of selling VND10.5 billion in goods without declaring VND157 million in taxes. Both have since paid the owed taxes.

Going forward, the prosecution seeks to ensure compliance with tax laws and set a precedent for transparency in online sales. The trial is expected to proceed with further scrutiny on unregistered e-commerce operations.

Taxes are theft.

Good on this woman for trying, and in a big way , 32 million $ !

She had the brains to build a successful business.

But never had enough brains to pay tax.

Stupid.
