Authorities eradicated over two million pesos worth of marijuana in separate operations in Kalinga and Benguet, Cordillera, on May 3. According to the PRO-CAR, officers discovered and destroyed 10,000 fully grown marijuana plants valued at ₱2 million in Tinglayan, Kalinga. In another operation, 250 marijuana plants, worth about ₱50,000, were found and burned in Bakun, Benguet.

These operations are part of intensified efforts to combat illegal marijuana cultivation in the region. The discovery in Tinglayan marks a significant haul, with authorities highlighting it as a hotspot for illegal farming. The swift action saw officers uprooting and burning the plants to prevent them from entering the market.

The operations have received praise, but experts stress that continued efforts are needed to dismantle the networks behind these plantations. Law enforcement agencies are focusing on identifying and arresting those responsible for the illegal cultivation. Community assistance and information sharing play critical roles in these eradication drives.

Moving forward, authorities plan to further increase surveillance and deploy more resources to uncover hidden plantations in remote areas. Continued cooperation with local communities aims to strengthen these efforts and stop marijuana production at its source.
