The municipality of Matnog in Sorsogon has achieved a record-breaking single-day tourism revenue of P221,760 on May 16. According to Mayor Bobet Lee Rodrigueza, the town welcomed 1,765 tourists, including 1,763 locals and two foreign visitors, who embarked on 199 boat trips. This surge in tourism highlights Matnog as a major draw in the Bicol region, especially known for its stunning Subic Beach on Calintaan Island with its unique pinkish-white sand.

Subic Beach, a favorite for island-hopping, snorkeling, and swimming, continues to attract tourists to Southern Luzon. In addition to Subic Beach, the renowned Juag Fish Sanctuary offers a unique marine experience with its expansive 17,000-square meter netted lagoon, housing diverse fish species, giant clams, lobsters, and sea cucumbers. Enhancements to the tourist experience include recent development projects, such as improved lighting at Subic Beach, funded by local and provincial governments.

Matnog's efforts to boost tourism also extend to cultural events, including the 1st Siram Matnog: Pagkaon Bikolnon Culinary Fest, which celebrated local cuisine. All 33 barangays participated, showcasing two dishes each that highlight regional seafood and vegetable ingredients. Mayor Rodrigueza praised the event, noting the successful display of local culinary arts from the savory curacha to unique vegetables like young galyang leaf.

Moving forward, the Matnog Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office (MTCAO) expressed gratitude to tourists and collaborators for their support of the town's initiatives. The office emphasized their commitment to delivering quality service and sustainable tourism management to continue attracting more visitors. As tourism grows, Matnog aims to balance economic benefits with environmental preservation and community engagement.
