Renew USA Passport by Mail Problem

Featured Replies

I'm trying to renew my USA passport by mail, but have a problem. When I try to buy the return envelope at Thailand Postmart, after entering the credit card information, I get the message "An error occurred". I tried my USA Visa card and my wife's Krungthai Visa debit card. Both get the error message.

I have no idea what is wrong. Anyone know what might be wrong?

Please help. Thank you.

If it continues, I would go to the main post office in your area and ask them for help. They may have a workaround for you.

They have been very helpful where I live.

Here is a solution that worked for me on that ThaiPost site.

Sign up for a TrueMoney account.

There are two levels.

The initial level which you can use to shop at 7-11 which also works on ThaiPost and a higher level which you can use with Grab services, etc.

The initial level is fine.

Then pay for your passport envelope using your TrueMoney account.

We just recently renewed ours. Everything went smoothly. However, that doesn't help you. Is it possible to use Wise to pay for the return envelopes? Also, sometimes it helps to clear the cache on your computer, then go back and give it a try.

I went back and checked my statements, and I did pay with an American credit card. I have noticed, though, that I need to use a VPN quite often when making purchases. I would give that a shot as well.

What is the amount of the charge for the postage? It could be the amount is quite small and the credit cards (the banks) won’t process such a small amount, perhaps less than 100 baht. I’ve run into that on Lazada/Shopee. I was on my laptop so my workaround was to pay via QR code via my phone. I don’t know if that’s an option with the Thai Post website.

Thanks for all the replies. I tried clearing cookies and cache, turned off firewall and anti-virus, different browsers, 3 different credit cards, and nothing worked. I tried many times. So then I tried QR/PromptPay option and my wife paid it with her phone. Success.

I still don't know what was wrong with credit cards. The error message "An error occurred" isn't very descriptive. They should change it to tell people what was wrong.

Congratulations.

There really is no other option to do a mailed new passport than successfully paying for the envelope online.

I had issues with that site as well.

I recently renewed my USA passport in Pattaya using an agent. Sure, it cost more but the service was great and totally painless. When you consider the extra cost over the 10 years of renewal time it doesn't really matter much. It was done at the visa place in the back of Big-C, South Pattaya.

but why?
it still needs be done online and mail
so what exactly did the agent do for you and at what cost?

I did mine 3 years ago, took about an hour online filing out everything, buying the return envelope and going to the PO

I just dropped off my passport along with the photos. They did the rest. Called me to come in and pick it up in a week or two. I think the total cost was around 10k. That included the renewal fees.

I mailed my passport and docs to the US Embassy yesterday. Today the post office says it was not delivered because the Embassy was closed. The message was at 14:00. The Embassy website says it's open until 16:00. What's going on?

Same was true with mine this year. I got everything back in about 2 weeks. I was shocked at how fast it was done.

It was delivered today, 12:22.

New passport was delivered today. 3 1/2 weeks from when I mailed to old passport.

Thanks for update. So approx 25 days turn around.

That's good. My Oz mail was 20 days.

Anything under 4 weeks a good result in my book
