The Malabon City government is organizing a recycling collection drive on May 28, offering cash for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. This initiative, conducted by the City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in partnership with Sentinel Plastic Corporation, will take place at Robinsons Mall parking lot from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Residents can earn cash by exchanging PET bottles and other plastic components, supporting environmental sustainability.

This effort is part of the “Sa Plastic na Basura, May Kita Ka!” program, which focuses on reducing plastic waste and promoting recycling. Clear PET bottles will be priced at ₱21 per kilo, while colored bottles will be exchanged at ₱10 per kilo. Additional items like bottle caps or rings will be valued at ₱20 per kilo, and bottle labels at ₱7.50 per kilo. The city aims to transform plastic waste into economic resources and boost sustainability efforts.

Experts emphasize the environmental benefits of initiatives like this, highlighting their role in decreasing landfill waste and encouraging community participation in environmental conservation. Local residents and advocacy groups have responded positively, appreciating the economic incentive linked to recycling activities.

Looking forward, similar drives are expected to be scheduled as the city continues its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. Residents are encouraged to participate and contribute to making Malabon a cleaner, greener community.
