Tourist Visa Application Cancelled at HCMC Consulate

Featured Replies

I applied for a 90 Tourist Visa on-line at HCMC Consulate, all looked good until I got an email requesting further Documents “Expiration Date Wrong” Then later that day, got another email “ Request for further information cancelled” Application was placed in ‘Pending Approval’ status. I got another email today “Application Cancelled - wrong personal information” Now the status is “Finished” I called several times today, of course no answer. Anyone have this problem in the past? Website says ‘Application fee is non-refundable’ so guess I am out $200, but would like an explanation. I have had one entry this year on 60 day Visa exempt, but only stayed 30 days, should I take a chance on another Visa Exempt entry??

First time for me - never been denied before. My passport is a newer one, very hard to copy with all the holograms. It's curious they originally said ‘expiration date wrong’ pspt was issued 22 SEP 2025, exp: 21 SEP2035. What do you think I should do??, I am 3 hours away from Saigon, but would make the trip if need be.

When online applications are canceled it means you have data entry error and there was a mismatch between what you typed in or what was autofilled in and what your passport actually says.

That results in the application being immediately canceled you forfeiting the application fee and you having to apply and pay again if you want a visa.

If the application was rejected that means some of your documentation was not correct but if it says it was canceled that was an error that you made when you filled out the application

Why the need to go to Saigon.

e-Visa application is done online including payment.

Did you fill out all the fields correctly. One common mistake is "Name" fields..

BTW: SETV has a validity of 90 days however the stamp on entry would be 60 days.

Entering visa exempt is an option.

However the airline may require onward flight.

There is no need to make a trip to the Embassy because they will do nothing. I believe it was when you scanned the mrz (machine readable zone) of your passport it filled in the data incorrectly on the application and you did not catch it.

Also sounds like you applied for a 6-month multi entry tourist visa because that's what cost $200 USD.

Expensive lesson to learn but it has happened to many many hundreds and hundreds of people all over the world since the E Visa online system was rolled out.

All you can do is apply again, sadly there is no do-over for a data entry error. Check all the data that you enter before you submit your application.

Well, I checked and double checked before launching it. The application is completely on-line and I didn't see an option to print it out, so can’t check what I entered. Guess I’ll have to apply again. My Vietnamese Visa here is good until 9 July so I have time. Thanx again

I haven't applied for a SETV eVisa in Vietnam, however have obtained eVisas to enter Vietnam.

There is a "review" option at the end prior to payment.

Would have thought that the eVisa application for Thailand would be the same.

BTW: what did you use as proof of being in Vietnam. Entry stamp?

SETV or METV?
SETV valid for 3 months > 60 days permission of stay on entry
METV Valid for 6 months > 60 days permission of stay on each entry

“Expiration Date Wrong”

Passport expiration date?
State the date form exactly as shown in the passport.

Passport show it 21 SEP 2035 I must have fat fingered it, there was no way to print it out that I saw, so cannot verify. All I can do now is re-apply, or enter on Visa Exempt I guess I applied for a 6 month Multi. Thanx to all You have been a big help. Cheers

They require your Entry Stamp, and an address verification - I live in a private home, not a hotel, so maybe that was a problem, there is no paperwork ‘cept what I made out at local police advertising my arrival (hotels do this for you)😀

Don't know what address verification would require.

For most it would be as simple as hotel booking.

"I live in a private home"...

No idea what that means. If you mean Airbnb them be clear.

Expert Tod above has given advice that I agree with.

Thinking you might be best to enter Thailand visa exempt.

Your experience is not typical

I had an O visa application cancelled last year due 'incorrect data' On checking the machine readable zone (thanks Tod, didn't realise it was called this) had added the letters u and k to my name. Possibly the watermark in a British passport?

Anyway my fault for not checking thoroughly before submitting.

Re applied immediately (double checking this time) and visa approved within 48 hrs. Lesson learned

Thanx for the inspiration, I now have a couple of options, re-apply, or enter Visa Exempt and try to upgrade - Thanx to all Peace

Interesting. Question: Is scanning the mrz of the passport mandatory? And if one notices an error(s) in the data which is entered from the scan, is the error(s) able to be manually corrected?

It is necessary to upload a photo pf your passport but it is not mandatory to use the scanned fields. Simply click cancel to enter the details manually, or if you use the scanned fields you can edit them manually.

Thanks. Just seems weird that supposed advances in these type of things, in this case mrz, may not be issue-free.

A couple passports (U.S.) ago, there was a line of arrow-like characters at the bottom of the main info page on the other side of the cover. Passport details info, or a security confirm thing? Entering the U.S., and some countries that had the readers, officers would grip the cover and run the bottom of that page through the reader, similar to swiping a credit card. The one in my passport was flawed, something was not right with the 'arrows', and it was always an iffy thing if mine would get through. Sometimes an officer would swipe, swipe again, again...nope. Then start checking me over, and inputting the details manually. One time returning to the U.S. I got pulled aside, taken to a holding room, held for a couple hours. I was told about that issue, which raised bells the passport could be a forgery.

OK, how do we resolve that? "Get a new passport," I was told. Put it on me? I had about 6-7 years validity left on that one. Nah, not gonna do that. Did start alerting the officer wherever I saw they were using these readers, pointing out the flaw, "Hey, the swipe thing may not work." That got me through to the next renewal!
