Trump Unveils Lavish New Presidential Jet Donated By Qatar

President Donald Trump has unveiled a new presidential aircraft that he says is more fitting for the United States and far superior to the ageing Air Force One jets that have served American presidents for more than three decades.

Speaking at Joint Base Andrews on Friday, Trump proudly showcased the luxury Boeing 747 donated by Qatar, describing it as "the world's most luxurious plane" and declaring that much of its design reflected his personal tastes.

The aircraft is expected to serve as a temporary presidential transport while Boeing continues work on two long-delayed replacement Air Force One jets.

Trump's Personal Touch

Trump appeared especially pleased with the aircraft's appearance, praising everything from its high-quality wood panelling to its redesigned exterior.

Gone is the iconic light-blue colour scheme first introduced during the Kennedy administration. In its place is a darker navy-blue and white design with bold red stripes, closely resembling Trump's personal aircraft.

"We like the baby blue, but it was time for a change," Trump said.

He also highlighted the redesigned American flag painted on the tail, saying he preferred its more natural appearance.

"We put the wave in it. We've always gone with a straight little noodle, and I never loved that," he joked.

A Luxury Flying White House

The interior remains largely unchanged from its previous use by Qatar's ruling family and features luxury fittings throughout.

Reporters touring the aircraft found reclining leather seats, gold-coloured fixtures, tan carpeting and premium wood finishes.

Trump repeatedly praised the craftsmanship, saying the interior reflected the highest standards of quality.

One notable modification is the addition of seatbelts carrying the presidential seal.

Filling The Gap Left By Boeing Delays

The aircraft arrives amid continuing frustration over delays to Boeing's replacement Air Force One programme.

Trump has frequently criticised the manufacturer after learning the new presidential aircraft may not be completed before he leaves office in 2029.

The Qatari jet was donated to the Pentagon last year and has since undergone modifications to prepare it for presidential service.

The Air Force says the aircraft will soon begin commissioning flights as part of final testing before entering operational service.

Questions Over The Gift

The donation has generated controversy in Washington due to its estimated value of roughly $400 million.

Critics have raised ethical, legal and national security concerns about accepting such an expensive gift from a foreign government.

The White House has repeatedly dismissed those concerns and insists the arrangement complies with all legal requirements.

Old Air Force One Jets Headed For Retirement

Trump also confirmed the current Air Force One aircraft will eventually be retired and displayed in museums.

The two Boeing 747-200 jets have carried every president since George H.W. Bush and have become some of the most recognisable aircraft in the world.

"We'll get them fixed up a little bit, not like this one, and we'll do museums," Trump said. "They're great planes, they're great history."

Eyes On July Fourth Debut

Trump said he hopes to use the new aircraft during celebrations surrounding America's 250th anniversary.

He wants the plane to travel to Mount Rushmore before Independence Day and said he would like it to perform a ceremonial flyover of Washington on July 4.

"A normal president wants to stay away from aircraft," Trump said. "But our country has to be represented properly."

When this story first broke last year, it was stated that when the official replacement presidential Boeing 747's are eventually delivered, Trump gets to keep this one, even if he's no longer POTUS.
