DTV application from Vietnam (Spain passport) - loan funds concerns

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm a Spanish freelance SEO consultant currently staying in Thailand (Pathum Thani area). My current permitted stay expires on July 3rd, so I'm planning to extend it 30 days before that date, and then travel to Vietnam to apply for the DTV Workcation visa.

My situation:

  • Spanish passport (visa exemption entry, 60 days)

  • Freelance SEO consultant — all clients are based in Spain, invoiced and paid to my Spanish bank account

  • I have contracts/invoices I can provide as proof of remote work for foreign clients

My concern — funds:

I have 500,000+ THB equivalent in my Spanish bank account, but the funds come from a personal loan I took out in March 2026. The money has been sitting there for about 4 months by the time I plan to apply (July/early August).

My questions:

  1. Does the embassy in Ho Chi Minh City typically scrutinize the source of funds, or just the balance and seasoning period?

  2. Has anyone been approved with loan funds rather than savings/income?

  3. Would it help to also show recurring freelance income alongside the loan balance?

  4. Any specific tips for applying from HCMC as a non-Vietnam resident (Spanish, applying as a third-country national)?

Thanks in advance — this forum has been incredibly helpful reading through previous threads.

My understanding is 500k in savings or current account.

What do you mean by "loan funds"

Example, in my Oz banking account I have savings account, credit card accounts and "line of credit" account.

I would be showing the home loan or credit cards etc it would need to be the savings account.

From AI: ... "Proof of Funds: Recent saving or checking bank statements covering the last 3 months with an ending balance of no less than 500,000 THB (or ~$16,000 to $17,000 USD)

As long as you can provide bank statements from an acceptable type of bank account (savings or current account) for the required period, that's it. They won't question how that money ended up in your account or where it came from.

1/ They do not care where the funds come from, as you can apply using a sponsor if you want to.

2/ Yes

3/ Not only would it help, but it is essential that you show income to prove you can support yourself. Just showing invoices is not enough.

4/ Enclose your latest Spanish tax return, business registration, a letter on company letterhead permitting you to work remotely while in Thailand, and a covering letter stating that you will stay in VN until the visa is processed, you will not work for any Thai companies or citizens, plus you will abide by all Thai laws while in Thailand. Use a free website like ilovepdf to merge all your documents into one pdf for uploading, as the application site does not support multiple document uploads. Buena suerte
