Can my new employer use my non b (no work permit) from old employer?

Featured Replies

I've started with a new school, but I'm on a non b from another school (long story), but it's just a 90 days non b, and it's not attached to a work permit. Can my current school still apply for me to get non b with work permit here in country? Do I need to exit and come back in again?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The real question is did you get this non-b 90 day visa that you're on inside the country or at a thai consulate in another country

As a rule non-b visas are employer specific and if you got the visa issued in country it should have the employer listed.

Now if you got the non-b visa issued outside the country through the eVisa at a thai consulate it may or may not have the employer listed in the remarks on the PDF that is your visa. If the employer is not listed on it you might be able to use it to get an extension with your new employer at the immigration office.

If you cannot use this current 90-day non-b with your new employer to get an employment extension, you are free to stay the full 90 days but you will have to exit and either return free stamp to start the in country non-b process at your immigration office or go to a Thai Consulate in a nearby country and apply for a new non-b visa using the online e Visa system.

Yes, mine is the latter. I applied at a consulate outside the country, and there is a note on the e-visa that has the name of my old school. So now HR wants me to go out and come back in on visa exempt.

My question now is when I exit, do I need to do anything that ensures that when I return they won't try to use the remaining validity on the non b? I'll be using an agency to border run to Laos.

You need to make sure you don't apply for and pay for a re-entry permit. So should be easy enough.
