The White House has reignited debate over President Donald Trump potentially joining the faces carved into Mount Rushmore National Memorial, declaring there would be "no better addition" to the iconic monument as America kicked off celebrations marking its 250th anniversary.

Ahead of Trump's Independence Day address at the famous South Dakota landmark, White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers praised the president's legacy, saying he deserved a place alongside America's most celebrated leaders.

"There would be no better addition to the iconic Mount Rushmore than the 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump," she said.

Despite the remarks, the White House declined to say whether any formal proposal exists to add Trump's likeness to the monument.

Trump Returns To Historic Landmark

Trump delivered a prime-time speech beneath the towering granite sculptures of former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln as celebrations began for the nation's 250th birthday.

The president has previously endorsed the idea of appearing on Mount Rushmore, calling it "a good idea" during his first term, although no serious effort has emerged to make the proposal a reality.

His visit marked his second speech at the memorial, having also addressed crowds there in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Air Force One Makes Dramatic Arrival

Trump arrived aboard the newly refurbished Air Force One, a Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar's royal family and recently pressed into presidential service.

Before landing, the aircraft performed a flyover above Mount Rushmore, providing a dramatic backdrop ahead of the evening's ceremony.

The event featured performances by U.S. military bands, tributes to the Armed Forces and concluded with a major fireworks display—the first at the memorial in several years, according to the National Park Service.

Washington Celebration Still To Come

The South Dakota appearance served as the opening act for an even larger Independence Day celebration planned in Washington, D.C.

The White House's "Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks" is expected to feature what officials describe as the largest fireworks display ever staged over the National Mall.

Trump has promised an extended address during the event and has enthusiastically promoted the celebration, describing it as the "most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all."

Symbolic Gesture Or Serious Proposal?

Whether the Mount Rushmore comments amount to little more than political theatre remains unclear.

Carving a new presidential likeness into the monument would require overcoming major engineering, environmental and legal hurdles, while any proposal would almost certainly trigger fierce political debate.

For now, the White House's remarks appear aimed at highlighting Trump's role in leading the country's semiquincentennial celebrations rather than announcing any concrete plans. If it were up to Trump and his MAGA cult followers, every building in the USA would have Trump's name on it (in gold, of course), all coins and paper money would have Trump's ugly mug it, there would only be one religion, the church of the Holy Trump, every American would be forced to have Trump's name and face tattood on their forehead, and fortune tellers would 'read' Trump's stool every day to let us commoners know what Trump's next fabulous and tremendous plans to enrich himself even further will be. And there will, of course, be mandatory mass gatherings where Trump criticasters will be put to death.
