Astro 50 Malay Channel Available In Thailand?

Featured Replies

Went to a Pub/Restaurant on Samui...They had Astro 50 a Malaysian Channel on their TV ...It had Pre, Half, Post Match commentary from the ESPN Crew, John Dykes and the boys..Instead of the current garbage on True Visions.

How to get it? Owner would not really say as wanted to be the only place to show.Just said he bought dish in Malaysia (didn't make sense)

Anyone any idea?

Not legally. You have to have someone in Malaysia to subscribe and pay the bill, then bring the receiver to Thailand.

Depending upon where you are you may need a bigger dish to get the signal.

There are other options to watch channels other than the UBC stuff, none are truly legal :o

May I ask why that is not legal? Seems like you are paying for a service?! Or are there country-wide monopolies for sat?

it's all down to copyright. Astro pay for the rights to broadcast to Malaysia. They encrypt the signal and limit sales of receivers/cards to their assigned area. Taking a card/receiver outside the area is breaking the copyright and therefore illegal (same with Sky in the UK). If Astro discover the box is outside the country they will disable it.
