Central Pattana launches 11B baht 'Central Central' in Siam Square

Featured Replies

Central Pattana has announced a new ambitious project right in the heart of Bangkok's shopping district. 'Central Central' will house 300 major shops, entertainment space and a German hotel chain when its finished. It will open in stages with the retail section opening as early as next year. It is to be built at the Pathuwan intersection. I can see only one corner that would be availaible - knocking down all the old shophouses on the Southeast corner to make way (the other three corners have Siam Discovery, the Arts/Cultural center and then MBK). The link has several artist conceptions of the project.

So they are now targeting genZ. It was time, as Central tends to be old fashioned, and in particular its department store business.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how it differs. Looks pretty big though. When they talk about getting young entrepreneurs I guess they mean co-minded, co-working space?

Soon there will be more malls then people in Bangkok. With their cheating prices, who buys ? Most of the top malls in Bangkok are often same price or even more expensive even then the malls in Europe.

One thing I've definitely noticed over the many years here, is the price of anything is always the same no matter where you go to buy it. It almost never varies (except small shops). I don't know if it's because only a couple of oligarch families run all the big retail, or if the manufacturers' prices must be adhered to. But yes, I agree, there aren't huge savings here compared to other Asian cities on most things.

Stick around - it's worse than that. They named it ‘CenTRal cENtrAL’, now is that weird or what? Worse than Lotus's if you ask me..
