Chiang Mai Burger Shop Condemns Customer’s Food-Throwing Outburst

A Chiang Mai burger shop released CCTV footage showing a customer throwing and stepping on his food following a dispute over waiting time. The employee was working alone and reportedly explained that she needed to complete an existing delivery order before preparing the customer’s meal. The shop owner believes language difficulties may have caused the customer to mistakenly think another person had been allowed to skip ahead. After receiving his order, the man allegedly threw it onto the ground, stamped on it and walked away from the shop. The owner defended the employee, stressed that hospitality workers deserve respect and thanked nearby vendors and delivery riders for helping comfort her and clean the area.

I agree with the employee. You cant do multiple things at the same time. People like this customer should be detained and put on a flight out of the country. Additionally it should be noted within the immigration system that he is banned for life. Thailand does not need people like that and those of us that live here and have families hear do not want to be associated with such people.

Understandable reaction. The shop should have warned the customer that there would be a lengthy delay.

Are you prone to hysteria as well? No damage was actually done other than a stomped sandwich aftermath. The customer most likely was left to languish because the shop could not show some basic respect. Not a deportable offence. What's next? deport people for minor traffic offences too?

If this guy is an expat living in Chiang Mai, and I was living in Chiang Mai, and I considered him an "associate" of mine, I would not be associating with him anymore, and I would be telling him exactly why.

No it is not against the law to step on a sandwich in Thailand so no fines and no deportations. BUT it might be a good idea for anyone entering the country to pass a basic understanding of the law exam to keep out people like the know nothing fellas commenting above because you are part of the PROBLEM!

But there are anti littering laws for not picking up even an accidentally dropped object, never mind one dropped deliberately!

Under the Public Health Act and local regulations, littering in public spaces is prohibited

One only has to take a look into many wooded areas here to see the amount of tonnage of garbage that exists here. Can't deport citizens but you can fine for littering, especially to that extreme.

This offense cost the customer his lunch out of impatience. Could have been having a bad day with something going wrong in his life. No excuse of course but understandable.

The employees at all food places pick up garbage thrown down by locals and foreigners alike all over the world. Littering is disrespect but many aren't taught this early on, so think the world is a garbage can anyway.

No. The law does not say that in Thailand.

They are entitled to remove anyone from the country that causes problems. You need to realise that you are not in your home country and respect the country you have come to. Could be a bit hard for you to understand that but try to.

I have been in Thailand for the same number of decades as your good self. I assume like me you don't go around throwing food in a restaurant

If every foreigner was removed because of an emotional outburst or temper tantrum, the tourist towns would be empty.

No one was injured. No physical damage occurred. A caution/reprimand will suffice.

The incident is much ado about nothing, and has nothing to do with respecting the country. The sandwich shop took orders when it knew it could not satisfy them in a timely manner. It was dishonest. Therefore, there are extenuating circumstances.

I most certainly understand the situation. I don't go around throwing sandwiches on the ground, but I do understad the person's frustration.

If you act like a child you should be treated like a child. I can understand the frustration but you don't cause a scene because of it.

A lot of these problems could be solved easily if eating establishments and places like deli counters in stores issued the customer a number when they walked in. Just like at the banks where you get a customer number out of the machine at the entrance.
