A 16-year-old Myanmar schoolgirl was seriously injured after falling from the eighth floor of a condominium in Chonburi's Si Racha district on Monday evening.

Police are investigating what led to the fall, which occurred at about 5.30pm. The girl was taken to hospital after rescue workers gave her first aid at the scene.

Student found unconscious beside building

Officers from Si Racha Police Station, investigators and rescue workers went to the condominium after receiving reports that a person had fallen from the building.

The girl, who is a Myanmar national and studies at a local school, was found unconscious beside the condominium. She had suffered a fractured left arm, a fractured right leg and abrasions to her face.

Rescue workers stabilised her before transferring her to hospital. Police have not released further details of her condition.

A Honda Wave 110 motorcycle parked below the building was damaged after being struck during the fall.

Police await interview with girl

A resident living nearby said he had been told by one of the girl's friends that she had been experiencing stress over forthcoming examinations and personal problems before the incident.

However, the resident stressed that the account was second-hand and that he could not confirm the actual cause of the fall.

Police have examined the location and spoken with witnesses as part of their inquiry.

Investigators said they would interview the girl in detail if her condition improves, in an effort to establish the circumstances behind the fall.

No finding has been released on whether the fall was accidental or linked to any other circumstances.
