Circus festival to spotlight Cambodia’s creative rise

Cambodia is stepping beyond the shadow of Angkor’s temples, aiming to rebrand itself as a modern arts hub. On Monday, the Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB) joined forces with Phare Ponleu Selpak, the Guinness World Record‑holding circus troupe, to co‑organise the 2026 Tini Tinou International Circus Festival.

The festival, now in its 13th year, will run in November across Siem Reap and Battambang. More than 100 artists from over 10 countries are expected to perform, bringing big‑top productions to audiences in two of Cambodia’s most celebrated destinations. Siem Reap, ranked among the world’s top 25 travel spots for 2026, will host shows from 17–19 November, before the spotlight shifts to Battambang, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, from 21–24 November.

The initiative builds on the success of the 2024 edition, which drew 14,000 attendees and generated 14 million online views. CTB says the partnership is designed to push Cambodia’s cultural narrative beyond its historic landmarks, promoting what it calls the “Angkor to Arts Corridor” — a vision of the country as a living, creative destination.

CTB’s chief executive, Kim Minea, described the collaboration as a milestone in diversifying Cambodia’s tourism appeal. “Like many outstanding events in Cambodia, the Tini Tinou International Circus Festival offers a truly unique cultural experience for international travellers,” she said, emphasising the board’s commitment to supporting Phare’s global outreach.

For Phare Ponleu Selpak, the grant backing from CTB is more than financial support. Executive Director Osman Khawaja called it “a vital catalyst” that validates decades of work in using art as empowerment. “It ensures travellers visit Cambodia not only for its ancient temples but for its vibrant, modern creative spirit,” he added.

Project Director Khuon Chanreaksmey went further, describing Tini Tinou 2026 as “an international gateway to Cambodia’s modern creative soul”.

With its blend of international talent and local artistry, the festival is set to showcase Cambodia as a destination where heritage meets contemporary culture — a country eager to be recognised not just for its past, but for the creative energy shaping its future.
