Sorry it’s my first post & I’m asking for help. I was a member of Thai Visa for many years & just found out about this site.

I hope that someone can help. My wife is Thai, lives in the UK, has a Thai passport with Indefinite Leave to Remain married with me a British citizen.

The question is about the evisa, does she need to apply & get one before she flies to Thailand to see her mother? I spoke with UK Visas who said because she’s a Thai National travelling to Thailand she doesn’t need an evisa. I’m assuming then that her return to England will be hassle free too? UK Visas also said that some airlines won’t except passengers that don’t have an evisa.

So I spoke with EVA air & they also confirmed that she doesn’t need an evisa. What I didn’t ask was will my wife have an issue when she lands back into the UK if she doesn’t have the evisa?

Can anyone advise us please?

Does she have a UK passport? How does she have permission to live in the UK? That's what she needs to show.

Thai people don't need a visa to enter their country. Like you don't need one to enter yours.

She has a Thai passport, nothing to do with her permission to enter the UK.

She has ILR. She doesn't need anything in addition. I believe the limitation is that she must not leave the UK for more then 180 days in a year.

What does she have in her Thai passport as the UK no longer ILR stamps in passports or issue resident cards, it is all e visa (ie all online), if your wife has a UK stamp in her passport she should have already applied to have it all transferred to online, but this might already be the case if she has a UKVI account, the she will have an e visa already

I am assuming you are talking about her boarding a flight back to the UK as she only has a UK e visa airlines are conncted to UKVI and can see her details, the importnat issue that her details ie passport number etc are updated in the UKVI same as phone number etc, see link below

IF she still has a ILR stamp in her passport then these are still valid for travel but she needs to get her status put online as at some point in the future this will be required, note there is no date published for this

The video in the previous post explains everything perfectly.

In the unlikely event the check in staff for her return trip cannot access her immigration status it might be an idea to print her e-visa and maybe print a couple of share codes, share codes can only be used once but you can get as many as you want.

My wife was asked for her visa when she checked for her flight from BKK to LGW a few months ago, I’d certainly have details to hand.

Sorry if my original post wasn’t clear because I’m getting responses with advise about how to use & present the eVisa details at the airport.

At present my wife doesn’t have an Evisa she has an indefinite leave to remain vignette visa sticker in her passport. She’s just completed her eVisa application & waiting for that to come through.

The original question is can she travel in the meantime with her vignette visa in her passport?

Yes she can use her vignette whilst her e-visa/NTL application is being processed, though some carriers may question the absence of an e-visa.
