A 52-year-old Malaysian man has died while transiting through Bangkok on a journey to Hokkaido, Japan, with colleagues on a company holiday.

Hamisi Mohammad Noor was preparing to continue his journey through Bangkok when he suddenly fell ill aboard the aircraft. Malaysian outlet Kosmo.com.my reported that he became unwell and collapsed in the incident on 10 August, although the circumstances and cause of his death were not immediately clear.

A video of the emergency has circulated widely on social media, showing airline cabin crew trying to assist him while he was still on board.

Crew tried to help passenger

The footage was uploaded to Facebook by the Islamic funeral service page Mr Wan Kan Official. Friends of Hamisi posted messages of condolence below the video.

One commenter, identified as Ziyad PG ID, described Hamisi as a good friend and said the group had been about to leave the aircraft in Bangkok to make their onward connection to Hokkaido.

"He was a good friend of mine," the commenter wrote. "He was about to get off the plane to connect to Hokkaido. Alhamdulillah, said that arrangements to bring the body from Bangkok back to Kulim, Kedah, have been completed."

Return to Malaysia arranged

In a later post, Mr Wan Kan said funeral organisations in Kulim and Kedah were assisting with arrangements to return Hamisi's body to Malaysia.

The body was collected from Samitivej Suan Luang Hospital in Bangkok and was being taken, by van, towards the Bukit Kayu Hitam border checkpoint, the post said. Plans included border paperwork, collection of the body at the crossing, Islamic washing and shrouding rites, prayers, and onward transport to Kulim.

No flight number was identified in the reports, and there was no immediate information on whether Hamisi had any known medical conditions.

RIP. But...I think it's a pretty good way to go, with friends at the start of an exotic trip. He was too young.
