Two people were found dead after a late-night fire engulfed the upper floor of a detached house in Bang Si Mueang, Nonthaburi, on 17 August 2026.

Almost 30 cats were also overcome by smoke in a rear room used to keep the animals. Firefighters were able to revive two of them with CPR efforts.

Bang Si Mueang Police received the report at 12.10am and sent officers to the housing estate in Bang Si Mueang subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi district. Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers and four water trucks from Bang Si Mueang Municipality's disaster prevention and mitigation department also attended.

It took more than 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Bodies found in bedroom

The fire started on the second floor of the two-storey house, causing extensive damage throughout that level. A man and a woman were found lying on their backs on a bed in a bedroom.

Police have not identified the victims publicly. Neighbours told officers that the deceased regularly traded shares and cryptocurrency.

A large fuel container and a charcoal stove were found inside the house. Police are continuing to inspect the scene and have contacted forensic officers to examine the property.

Fuel smell reported during firefighting

Ruamkatanyu firefighter Cham Laotum, 45, said crews initially did not know that people were trapped inside.

They concentrated on preventing the flames from spreading, but the fire had already reached the bedroom. Cham said he was unable to enter the room internally and climbed a ladder to look inside, where he saw the bodies and a large fuel container. Firefighters also reported a persistent strong smell of fuel while tackling the blaze.

The rear room had been used as a cat room and contained animals including Persian and Scottish breeds. A charcoal stove had been left burning there, while the bathroom door was locked, according to Cham.

Thai emergency services can be reached through the national 191 police emergency number, while the fire and rescue emergency line is 199. The cause of this Nonthaburi fire has not yet been established, as the investigation continues.

Can you imagine the smell of cat p#ss cummin off that fire. RIP to the people and condolences to their family members.
