Online battery sales - Is it as bad as people say?

Featured Replies

We all know that buying batteries online in Thailand is a lottery with so much fake stuff around it's not true.

I happened to need a small, 48V LiFePO4 pack for a project and saw this "200Ah" pack for 8,500 Baht with vouchers. There are many sellers on Lazada and Shopee with these packs so I'm not naming anyone.

Now that's well into the "to good to be true" box but if it actually came in as >50Ah it would suit my purposes.

Immediate red flags: -

  • The price of course.

  • The size is too small for a 200Ah x 48V pack (although they have the same image for the 100Ah version so it could just be an error). It could legitimately be a 100Ah in that box.

  • The lid is riveted on!

So what else could I do, I ordered one!

The delivery chap actually got it off the truck on his own, that would never happen with our existing 280Ah packs!

Although rather basic it actually looks quite nice!

Testing time.

I charged it up until the BMS cut off charging using my trusty 4A charger.

Fired up my capacity tester at 11A (the maximum it will do at 52V) and hit start.

A couple of hours later the tester stopped!!

27Ah from a "200Ah" pack? That's disapponting to say the least!

So I charged it and tried again, just in case!

Checking the internal resistance was also disappointing, I'd expect more like 4.8mOhms

So, unsurprisingly, it's a load of dingo's kidneys.

It's on it's way back to Lazada as defective!

What junk shall I buy next?
