My son (11-years-old) has an Education extension for studying at his school, and his mother has a Parent/Guardian extension (issued by Rayong Immigration). Both extensions finish on 3 September. Despite starting the process over a month ago, the school has still not received the correct paperwork from the Provincial Education office. They had to send it back as there was an error. It's now beginning to look like we won't be going to Immigration to process both the extensions until 1 September. In the event that there is an unexpected issue on the day, can (or will) Immigration issue a temporary extension to give us (or the school) time to sort out the issue?

Sadly, no.

There is no short-term extension for parents of foreign children enrolled in a school on an ed visa. You apply before your current stamp runs out for the year extension or you run on overstay.

Thanks. How about for my 11-year-old son? His Extension expires on the same day. His school has had well over a month to get the documents together.

The circumstances don't change the fact that there's no such thing as a short term education extension. You either go on overstay, and pay the 500 baht per day when you finally apply for the extension, or you leave Thailand and apply for new visas outside of Thailand, or return and try to convert from tourist to non-ED inside of Thailand.

The first option is probably the least painful if you have the funds to cover the overstay.

Thanks. I'm furious with his school. They started the process of getting the documentation together months ago, but only informed me yesterday that some documents had to be reissued.

We still plan to apply before the extensions end (3 September) but I'm worried about any further delays with the school docs, and the possibility of Immigration picking up something when we apply.
