Dolly Parton has been honoured by the British royal household, with the Coldstream Guards performing one of her best-known songs outside Buckingham Palace.

The military band played Parton's hit "9 to 5" during the traditional Changing the Guard ceremony at the London palace, paying tribute to the country music star following her death on Aug. 25 at the age of 80.

Parton died after a brief battle with cancer. She was widely known for her music and her work supporting children through charitable initiatives.

The performance took place at Buckingham Palace, the central headquarters of the British monarchy in London.

Royal family remembers Parton

King Charles III and Queen Camilla were not at the palace for the performance as the royal family was taking its summer break.

However, the royal family's official social media accounts shared footage of the Coldstream Guards playing "9 to 5" and published a message remembering Parton.

The tribute highlighted the impact she had beyond her music, including through the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a programme that provides free books to children.

"Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many," the royal family's post said, referring to the millions of children who received free books through the programme.

The message ended with a tribute to Parton: "We will always ❤️ you."

Parton's lasting legacy

Parton, known as the Queen of Country, became one of the most recognisable figures in country music during a career spanning decades.

"9 to 5" was among her most famous songs. Released in 1980, it became closely associated with the film of the same name, in which Parton also starred.

Her charitable work through the Imagination Library became another major part of her public legacy, providing books to children and families.

The Coldstream Guards' performance offered a distinctive British tribute to a musician whose influence extended well beyond the country music world.
