I guess this has been asked before but here goes.Why is there no regular public transport ,such as songthaews , pick up drop off , as in Pattaya and other major towns and cities in the country ? Is it because no business wants to run such,is it because the Phuket gov doesn't allow it,because the place basically mafia run and and no governor has made a serious attempt to deal transport .Its clear there would be customers for such a transport system and not be left to the cheating Taxis.

They have had these the last 50 years.

Is it just one road. On one route on the Island ? Not to beach areas ?

Just read slowly. From Phuket town 8 beaches are serviced. Have a look.
