Koh Larn Speedboat Fight Brings New Restrictions at Tawaen Beach

Two Koh Larn speedboat workers are facing legal proceedings following a beachfront brawl that developed from competition over passengers near Tawaen Beach. The August 27 confrontation reportedly followed mounting tensions between operators over attracting tourists returning to Pattaya and accusations of price undercutting. Pattaya officials, Marine Police and Tourist Police subsequently introduced new controls, including banning boat operators from soliciting customers between the songthaew parking area and the beach entrance. Authorities will conduct daily monitoring, inspect boat licences and vessel registrations, and restrict certain sidecar vehicles from picking up or dropping off passengers in designated areas during the afternoon. Officials are also pursuing an agreement allowing escalating penalties, including possible work suspensions, for boat employees whose misconduct harms tourists or Pattaya's tourism reputation.
