A Rayong mother has asked police to arrest her own son and his friends after alleging they repeatedly gathered at her home to smoke cannabis at night.

Orathai, 36, posted phone footage of the group on social media after saying her repeated warnings had failed to stop them. Police have since seized cannabis and smoking equipment from the property and are taking legal action against her son and his friends.

The case concerns a house in Village 12, Bang But subdistrict, Ban Khai district, Rayong province.

Mother says warnings were ignored

Orathai said the youths, some still in school and others no longer studying, regularly arrived at the house on motorcycles before gathering to smoke cannabis.

She said the smell spread through the house and became a nuisance. According to Orathai, the group continued to use the property despite her attempts to tell them to stop.

After smoking, she said, the youths often appeared dazed and absent-minded. She also alleged that her son could become irritable and sometimes harmed himself.

Rather than trying to protect him from possible consequences, Orathai said she wanted officers to arrest and prosecute both her son and the other young people involved.

Police seize items from the house

Pol Col Pramot Kongkalai, chief of Ban Khai Police Station, ordered investigators to inspect the address after the complaint was made.

Police seized cannabis and smoking paraphernalia as evidence. They are proceeding with legal action against Orathai's son and his friends, in line with her request.

That he's home smoking it should not be the problem but wanting to harm himself is. Teens are going to do things their parents will never know about, and I would rather see them doing it at my house than elsewhere. One way to get to know their friends, know what they're doing, and that they are safer at home than in public where they could get arrested. This is weed and not Coke, Heroin or Yaba. Now her son will be elsewhere getting high and increase all risks. She could ask them to smoke outside, although the stigma has many hating the drug anyway. There are a lot worse things.

The problem is he's probably not successful, and probably is a burden to his family who is supporting him.

It isn't about the weed but a mental issue, although with them drugs can make things worse as far as thinking. Take away the weed and he still has a problem.

His mother, who I presume knows him quite well, is blaming it for bad behaviour! I can believe they were probably lazy before they started smoking it!

I see it in my village alone. Teens at my ex's mom's house a lot when I'm walking to pick up my daughter at school, sitting on the porch smoking. She doesn't care, although the police have been there many times for my ex's son's crimes, including selling Yaba that put him in prison for a number of years. They also come to the sala behind my house, on grandma's farm to smoke. It's all part of growing up. if you let it take hold and are lazy, it might be their lifestyle for years. Individual choices.

Smoking cannabis... In another article a much eorse offence of selling 29k cannabis.... Which will be fined more? Good that mother try to protect her kid, but on the other hand a joint is not unusual anymore

Cannabis can absolutely be misused, but responsible adult use and cannabis-use disorder are not the same thing.

Judge the behavior and its consequences, not the person or their age.

That being said I would prefer if my son waits until he is 20+ before consuming cannabis.

I started at age 16, but got lucky I had smart successful friends who also smoked cannabis and helped me become a fully functional highly productive successful career person who is currently exploring consciousness and other higher order problems.

I also saw many "zeros" who smoke along the way.

It's like saying everyone who picks up a drink will become a gutter bum alcoholic. 😎

Who called cannabis users immature? People of all ages smoke, and maturity has little to do with it. people like to get high.Always have, always will. The problem with using drugs as a teen is the immaturity of the brain. The younger a person starts using drugs the higher chance of developing an addiction, especially with certain types.

My children started at 16-18, telling me afterwards, and they still smoke weed. One tried other things, but got away from them. I started at 17 also, and never let any of them become anything but an occasional thing, as working out and nutrition came first.

All part of growing up is teens doing things their peers do, without the parents knowing most of the time. I don't judge anyone who gets high, as it's their life and up to them if they make it an addiction.
