Bangkok Nightclub Raid Leads to Police Nominee Allegations

A raid on 577 Club in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district has led to five local police officers being reassigned and an investigation into claims that another officer acted as a nominee shareholder for the venue. Officials say the nightclub operated without the necessary permit, remained open until around 4 am and had previously resumed business despite being ordered to close. An undercover investigation also identified Vietnamese and Chinese workers at the club, with some Chinese nationals reportedly taking management roles and questions raised about whether foreign employees had valid work permits. During the August 29 raid, authorities discovered drugs, recorded positive drug tests among some staff and customers, and arrested managers, workers and other suspects connected to the operation. Investigators are now examining allegations surrounding a police officer identified only as Jo, while the five Huai Khwang officers were transferred pending an inquiry into how the venue was able to continue operating.
