I have been trying to get our US marriage recognized in Thailand.

The process is rather difficult - (Twice the US State Department screwed up on their end)

Before I give up - Here's my basic reason for doing this.

We have a Thai Will, and specified how nuch money and proeprty goes to the Family here.

My wife has 2 bank accounts in her name only. If our marriage is not registered in Thailand, Do I lose the ability to reciver any of that money outsuide of our will?

My wife swears that if something happens to her that her famikly can be trusted to do the right thing by me, and I don't need to worry.

I trust my wife implicitly - But ---

Most would agree that when it comes to $$$, even the most "stable" families can come apart.

How important is this registration?

Gemini AI says that for purposes of inheritance a foreign marriage is recognized in Thailand. You may have to go through the same process that you have tried already to prove to the probate court that you were married.

How important is this registration?

My Thia son trusts Thai wife 100% on everything.

But he doesn't trust his wife's siblings at all:

-Her older brother, has made if clear that his sister (my Thai son's wife) has to give him 100% of the assets held by My Thai son and his wife on the death of either my Thai son or his Thai wife. He is adamant that this is Thai law. It's not. My Thai sons BIL is also adamant that my Thai son's wife must by Thai law give eveything in her name to her elder brother at anytime he asks for it.

-My Thai son's wife also has an elder brother - full on Thai loud mid aged fat ignorant Thai lady boy. He insists that the sister (my Thai son's wife) must provide a house and all facilities and food and transport for her older lady boy brother. He insists this is Thai law.

-Both of these clowns insist that the faranf in the family (me - legal father of my Thai son) is not allowed to live in any house owned / registered to the farangs son or daughter in law. Not correct by Thai law.

-What none of these clowns know is that my Thai sons and his Thai wife have completed Thai wills indicating very specifically who bequeathes what what when either of them pass away.

Apart from inheritance issue, if you apply for Marriage extension you will need to register the overseas marriage in order to get a Kor Ror 22 form from a District office. It costs B10 per copy.
