Nigel Farage said he wants to “hijack” Donald Trump’s hardline immigration enforcement adviser in an effort to bring him to the UK to “secure our borders”.

Speaking at an event in the United States, the Reform UK leader also urged Europe to take what he described as a “more sensible view” of Trump’s administration, rather than treating it as “villainous”.

Farage Targets Tom Homan

Farage made the comments while Tom Homan, Trump’s adviser on the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was a guest at the event.

He praised Homan’s record and said he wanted to take him to Britain, telling the audience: “I’ve got terrible news for you. We’re hijacking Tom Homan and taking him back with us to secure our borders.”

Homan is the key adviser behind ICE, which has faced increased scrutiny over its enforcement approach following a series of fatal shootings by its agents. The Trace reported that ICE officers have opened fire on 29th and 30th people since Trump took office last year, after two deaths in July.

Salgado Araujo and Durán Guerrero were named by The Trace as the most recent people to be shot by immigration officers.

Hands-On Approach to Enforcement

The article also linked Homan’s role to a period in January when immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis led to a crackdown. It said Homan took a more hands-on approach to immigration policy after being brought in by Trump to “de-escalate” tensions there.

In Trump’s first term, Homan was credited with helping design some of the administration’s most restrictive measures. The report said this included family separation, a policy that had been seen as too severe by officials in the Obama White House before later becoming central to Trump’s “zero tolerance” strategy.

Reform UK Promises More Hardline Policy

Reform UK has committed to a tougher immigration stance than other mainstream parties. The party has promised mass deportations of people who entered the UK illegally, and it has said it would deploy the Royal Navy to intercept small boats in the Channel.

The party did not respond to a request for comment on whether it would seek to mirror ICE’s style of immigration enforcement, which has been criticised for brutality.

Farage previously interviewed Homan on his GB News show last year, describing him as uncompromising and saying he had achieved results on deportations, while acknowledging there had been “some backlash”.

Comments on Trump and Europe

Farage’s remarks on Trump and his administration were accompanied by calls for a different European perspective of US policy. At the event, he said it was “important that our country, and Europe too, get a better, more sensible view of America than it gets of the Trump administration” through mainstream media.

His comments came after Farage appeared to distance himself from Trump in April, saying the pair had not spoken for many months and questioning the president’s judgement on the Iran war.

The latest visit to the US also follows strains in relations between the White House and Downing Street linked to Iran and policy towards Israel since Andy Burnham took over from Keir Starmer. Burnham will have his first meeting with Trump in New York next week. The report said Trump had previously described Burnham as “extremely liberal” but also praised him for potentially opening up the North Sea to further drilling.

Farage Diverges Again on Ireland

Farage also departed from Trump’s views again earlier this week after Trump said he would love to see a united Ireland. Farage said: “Northern Ireland is a proud and integral part of the United Kingdom,” adding that the people of Northern Ireland “neither want a referendum nor unification.”

Now why would the Government be going to Court to block the release of crime Data between 2018 and 2024 ?

The perspective is that Honan is a brutal racist thug, who is responsible for an organisation which racially profiles, and is not averse to killing people based on that racist profiling. He actively and publicly justifies doing so. That Farage thinks that is what the UK needs is very revealing. If you think that is in any way desirable in this country it is you who needs to get a grip.

Homan, a former police officer and Border Patrol agent, has worked under six presidents during his three decades in law enforcement. He was executive associate director of enforcement and removal operations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement under President Obama. During that administration, ICE carried out a record number of deportations.
