Hi, a couple of questions about getting new 90 day stamp on my multi entry non imm b visa:

Can anyone recommend a visa run trip from phuket > ranong? if the admitted until date is 12th can I do the run on the 12th or need to go before?

Also does anyone know anything about this I have just read on www.legalthailand.com

''Your best choice is to obtain a Multiple-Entry Non-Immigrant visa type B (Business Visa) which valid for 12 months. With this visa type you will need to exit and enter Thailand at least every 90 days to get a new entry stamp allowing you to stay a further 90 days.

Is that what you have always heard of? But please read this! There's always an exemption in Thailand! Suppose you already got a Non-Immigrant Visa (i.e. Business Visa) and suppose you are already in Thailand for 65 days, so now what to do? The Immigration Bureau of Thailand stated that "if the holder of non-immigrant Visa notice the Immigration Bureau of Thailand in approximately every 90 days (before his/her first 90 days expires), the Immigraion Bureau will allow non-immigrant visa holder to stay in Thailand for another 90 days without exit and re-enter Thailand!"

Thanks

Unfortunately, there is quite a lot of wrong information on the Internet about extensions of stay in Thailand and I believe this is one such case. The latest published rules are here, two different English translations of them are here and here. Amendments to these rules are expected to be published in the Government Gazette on September 10, 2007 and are already discussed on this forum here, here and here. None of these expected amendments is about a 90-day extension of stay simply for the asking after entering Thailand on a non-immigrant visa.

Doing a search for “90 days” in the current rules you will find several possibilities of a 90-day extension available, regardless of the type of visa on which the applicant entered, but all are subject to specific conditions and criteria. Take for example paragraph 7.15:

7.15 In the case of installation or repair of machines, aircraft or ocean vessels: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time.

Basis for consideration

(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM); and

(2) Confirmation and request has been made by the organization or agency concerned.

Documents required

1. Application form

2. Copy of the applicant's passport

3. Confirmation letter and request issued by the organization or agency concerned

Yes, you can make the run to Ranong on the 12th or even before. It's a good visa run once you get there. They're usually quite nice and it's cheaper to get a visa to Myanmar than to Cambodia. Also they just do a half page stamp instead of the usual Cambodian one page sticker. It's quite easy, there, really.

A consulate told me a year ago I could just report to immigration instead of making visa runs on a non-B multiple entry but I think she may have been wrong. Best to just make a visa run, as it's easier instead of being unsure and then being overstay.

Thanks for your help,

I too don't believe everything I read on the net it just seemed to make sense if it was true - what is the purpose of making you leave and then re-enter? if it's just for registering would the authorities not make more money by allowing you to renew at an immigration office for a fee instead?

A visa run it is then, any company recommendations?

Back in the days when I was on the 90-day shuffle I made it a practice to do the run a day or two BEFORE the deadline, if only to allow for flat tires, Bangkok belly, or other unforseen occurances that might delay me. Sure, you loose a bit of time on your overall stay in the LoS but seemed prudent to me.

Do a google for: ranong visa runs

There's several hits there.

Makes no difference to your total stay as you just go 1 day before the 12 months are up and get another 90 days.

As to why they don't allow you to just sign on at immigration for some fee rather than hand Cambodia USD 20 I do not know. Charge the usual Bt1900 and think about the help to the environment, as well as the Immigration coffers !
