svenivan
I cannot come. It is Members Day at Santiburi. I would love to be on a bicycle climbing 900 m (?) in a 12 km (?) run. Maybe next year IF I buy a bicycle and IF I start using it and IF Santiburi is closed for golf that day. But Good Luck to everyone else!!!

( pm me , no hidden advertisement ) todays test with northern bike team seems already promising (the inscription is on the road to doi tung just a bit after you turn left from the super highway , can ' t miss it , big parking space , inscription start around 07.00 am i think ) mtb tyres , minimum size allowed 1.
cm das
mtb tyres , minimum size allowed 1.8 So this is off road I take it? What's the terrain like? I mean, I know we're talking about a long climb, but what's the condition of the road surface? How technical is the route? Thanks for any advice. And by the way, I'm in it just for fun. I only race against myself.

Thanks for any advice. i am sorry to say but the track is perfectly paved , it ' s the normal traffic road climb to doi tung since the organisation is designed for a large group of people of all level also they changed the difficulty of the track , they cut out the very very steep part last year, wich means for the winner overall a half hour faster , around 40 minutes in total time , is about the same as the climb of doi suthep now

flupke
Why only mtb tires then? All I have is a road bike with 23mm tires. hi el jefe , i just found out that : on special demand for the speed lovers on a road bike : there is a new category this year : road bike race , distance 60km , finish at doi tung ( more details later ) now it is getting difficult to choose , i can borrow my friend ' s carbon BMC if i want a road bike , i prefer a longer distance then just a 40 min sprint climb, so not decided yet Edited October 1, 2007 by flupke

What place did you get flupke?Any other local winners? the olympic spirit makes it a great event the overall winner for 23 km was a thai biker from mae sai , in 52 minutes i got 5 th place overal , 54 min , not bad , since i am much overweight compared to most thai bikers just look at danish rider Rasmusen in the tour de france and you know the importance of it the road race 60 k was won by the previous mtb winner of last year , a biker from chiang rai northern bike team i know of about 4 other farang bikers from chiang rai , not much 5 farang bikers from chiang mai joined the road race

AjarnP
Just to make it a little more exciting ("exciting"? read "HARD") the organizers have changed to route this year. Instead of the 'usual' route that is followinig the main road. This year's event route will turn right a at the village and follow what my wife calls the "old" route. It is indeed shorter but is very much more steep with teh first of the real hills clocking a gradient of nearly thirty percent according to my GPS I went up the route again yesterday and made it but it was a real struggle. I am so, so pleased to have given up smoking is all I can say. Good luck to all on Sunday AjarnP
