My thai girlfriend was recently denied a US tourist visa. The process was a total joke and I wouldn't recommend that anyone even waste their time going this route. I really wanted my girlfriend to visit the US and meet my parents before we got engaged but since being denied I now think I am going to just apply for a fiancee visa for her.

How long should we wait before we apply for the fiancee visa?

When my girlfriend applied for a tourist visa the consulate worker ( a 20 something woman) told my girlfriend that we had not known each other long enough. We have known each other for over a year!!! I am totally miffed about the whole process. The consulate worker didn't even look at her documentation regarding finances, job etc. And I am insulted that my government will take my hefty tax payments for 17 plus years yet tell me I have not known someone long enough to have them as a guest in my country. What a crock of Sh*t!!!!!

ALSO how often do they deny K1 or K3 visas? My thai girlfriend has heard horror stories about wives being denied visas to the US....is this true???

A friend of mine had the same problem but he got around this by having her join a tour to the US (New York) and when she landed and was at the hotel he went and met her, then took her back to North Carolina to immigration and sorted it all out and they were married and she has been in the USA for 7 years now.

Maybe he had good luck but it did work.

I realize you are upset but rather than being reactionary you have to understand how the game is played. The US isn't out to get your sympathy vote, they are out to protect their ability to fund its infrastructure and global interests. Anything and anyone that may threaten it's ability to provide for it's tax paying citizens is highly scrutinized. I along with you find it frustrating that they would be threatened by a Thai women and deny her entry while not afraid to fund trillion dollar wars but that's just how it is. Unfortunately there is a history of women coming from nations like Thailand and eating up government resources without paying the taxes that have created them and unlike Mexicans not really contributing to our GDP. The US simply doesn't believe that she will have incentive to return to her own country and will be a burden on it's resources and you failed to prove otherwise.

Marriage on the other hand requires an I-864 affidavit of support which guarantees the US government that unless certain metrics are met you not the US government will be the one who will bear any financial burden she may incur.

Sorry to hear about that. I am about to do the same thing but I know many have told me never say she is coming to visit a boy friend or even family. All of that makes her sound like a flight risk...... I know....I know it is stupid but that is how they think.

You really a K1 is more stupid because it put pressure on to marry now or lose it after 7 months hard work. A tourist visa is actually a better thing for a date to see if she likes the country & family. Then go home & get a K1.

Anyway as far as I know it will not impact your K1 & no need to wait on it.

Also I do not think they get turned down often unless of course you do not make enough money to finaclially be responsible for her.

Good Luck !
