Japanese man nabbed at Bangkok airport for human trafficking

BANGKOK: — Thai police arrested a Japanese man Thursday night upon his arrival at Bangkok's international airport from Tokyo and charged him with human trafficking, a police source said Friday. Yoshiyuki Misawa, 32, allegedly trafficked Thai women to Japan for the sexual trade, the Crime Suppression Bureau source said.

A 22-year-old Thai woman filed a grievance against Misawa, saying he sent her to a karaoke bar in Nagoya where she was forced to have sex with customers. The woman told police that she was locked up at the karaoke bar and also tortured there, but managed to escape and sought shelter at the Thai Embassy in Tokyo.

I was once offered airfare and 10,000 baht to play escort and take a Thai girl to Japan. She wanted to go, wasn't trafficked, but this amount of money is a joke and would barely pay a day's stay in Japan.

I responded that I wanted r/t air tickets, plus hotel costs for 5 nights, plus 50,000 baht cash. My tentative plan was to report my "girlfriend" missing on the third or fourth day.

Japan has an interesting system in that if they approve a visa for a Thai girl in the company of a Westerner, quite often they will stipulate that both of you need to leave Japan together or one of you stays in detention until the other is located. On learning that I dropped the idea completely.
