I've had this on and off and it's difficult to describe.

I often get it after sitting down for a while and it's a sharp ache as opposed to a dull ache and it's a feeling of tightness in the inside of my right thigh.

It almost feels like my veins and arteries are being stretched almost to snapping point if I walk with wide strides.

I thought it was a bruise but the pain is too sharp to be a bruise.

What makes me paranoid is wondering if it's anything smoking related. I know legs have been amputated due to smoking and it can affect the blood and although I'm sure it isn't this (I don't smoke that much) - I wouldn't be that paranoid if I had any idea what was causing it.

Any ideas?

It could be anything from mild muscular strain to DVT.

Don't ask for a diagnosis here ... get it checked out by a doctor!!!

Agree with rod_kalashnikov.

If its a DVT (blood clot) could be potentially fatal.

An ultrasound screening may be adviseable. to rule out DVT.

Don't wait. Consult with your doctor ASAP.

Does it happen just after you have had a bargirl perched on your lap ? :o

but seriously we would need a raft of information just like a doctor to make an informed judgement.

like have you been doing strenuous exercise ? too much wild rumpo ??

see a doc ...

I'm not a doctor, so, this is just an observation that I notice about myself.

...when I don't exercise for a length of time, my body seems to get more susceptible to muscle pulls, and as a result, the pain in the legs. the obvious solution is to start a moderate daily exercise routine to increase the strengh in your legs, and to help it expel any toxins accumulated within.

also, have you ever tried having a thai massage done every other day? I find that after every workout at the gym, my body recovers faster.

Thanks for advice so far.

Today (monday morning) - nothing, absolutely fine so it was definatly the result of something I had done, maybe hopefully just a muscle pull.

I think a massage is a good idea but a visit to the doc could be a waste of money if it was just a muscle pull, however, it's happened two or three times over the past year so I will definatly get it checked out if it happens again.

Have not been getting any nor have I been filling up with toxins, maybe it's withdrawal. :o

The advice to see a doctor to rule out

anything serious is sound advice.

But for what its worth ...

For years I had aches and pains even though I

am fairly athletic playing many sports. Then a

friend suggested it may be dehydration and to

drink 10-12 full glasses of water or fluids every day.

When I tried this, lo and behold, all those little

stiffnesses and aches disappeared.

Apparently I lived more than 50 years of my life

in a state of dehydration.

Muscles are some 85% water and not getting enough

fluids makes them function poorly.

Drink, drink, drink and those pains may go

away for you too.

FWIW :o

Doctor: 80 baht

Massage: 200 baht

Why don't you try to go to a doctor who will give you a massage as well, that'd be a good deal...

It's a bit amazing that you talk about 'waste of money' when thinking about going to the doctor.

What if it's something serious? ("Well, I saved 80 baht!")

My first thought is sciatica as well. It's in usuall for it to present on the inner thigh

but it is possible especially if sitting aggravates it.

As allways I have to reccomend followup with a physician.

Good that your feeling better though.

Were the aches and pains regional?

It's still kind of lingering and last night I was doing some heavy excersise with a new friend with aggrevated it a little.

I will drink more water all the same - water is good for everything.

I'm absolutely with you on that. Working out for many many moons (19 years) I occasionally experienced pains particularly in the joint areas (such as of the big toe, shoulder, some fingers etc.). Somehow I figured it might have something to do with dehydration, increased my water intake quite a bit and the aches disappeared.

Actually when Bronco raised the subject in another thread I even made a quick search to find a link between dehydration and joint/muscle aches but did not find anything (possibly not devoted time enough).

Anyway, for those guys sweating quite a bit and suffering from pain/aches in several areas of the body it will surely be no mistake to reduce coffee, cola and alcohol intake (caffeine and alcohol support dehydration) for a while and gulp down some additional water instead spread out over the day.

Also if you are into exercising (lifting weights) keep in mind that regular moderate (don't force it) stretching is an absolute must to avoid that the muscles shorten and stiffen up which will eventually cause discomfort sooner or later. Same surely goes also for the individuals spending lots of hours sitting in front of the computer.

Since starting this post I have noticed a pattern in the aches.

It's always after I've been sitting down for an hour or more and the pain - (tolerable pain but pain nevertheless) - the pain subsides about twenty or thirty minutes after getting up and walking about.

Odd.

Have/had similar problems following herniated disk in lower back. One pain (now don't laugh) was in my rectum and gave me a "flash" wave of nausia.

My doctor (a board certified specialist in 5 catagories, including sports medicine and a director of the UCLA Medical School) tells me its referred pain from my back.

I do still get sciatic pain, foot numbness, back pain, and other little "tweeks", but.......my rectum? :o

I'd love to hear Dr. Pepe's comments on that one. :D

Find my old heat pad together with a bottle of "vino-roja", usually eases the pain.

Actuaaly quite common with lower lumbar sacral nerve impingment.

If the rectal pain continues use more lubricant :o:D:D

Sorry I couldn't resist...

Your right, chronic dehydration is very common, years back I found myself in the waiting room of my local doc, don't recall the exact issue but I could hardly stand. :o

One of the nurses saw me and straight up said I look like shi ... She came back with a full liter of water and told me to drink it. It was amazing, I felt remarkably better immediately. When she asked how much water I drink daily I realized it wasn't much, I understand that alcohol, soda, coffee, are mild diuretics and don't hydrate you well. I force myself now to drink more water even if I don't feel thirsty.
