I am interested in finding a North American multinational organization that has a presence in Thailand, and has a tendency to send employees to Thailand if they demonstrate suitable aptitude and have a skillset that is in demand and/or is in short supply in Thailand. My question to those of you living and working in Thailand is, what are some of the MN companies present that have foreigners in some positions, and what skills appear to be worthy of shipping over?

Any insight you could offer would be much appreicated!

Me and my Thai/Aussie wife both work for MNs in BKK. We used to work overseas and were transferred to BKK.I was transferred because I was

offered the opportuinity and my wife was transferred because she requested/pitched for it.

As with all things there is luck and timing involved. Also a bit of seniority and ass kissing for the desirable overseas postings.

I can't comment too much on "tactics" for getting a posting because it was never my goal, it just eventuated, so I went with the flow.

Most MNs I know dont hire expats locally in LOS.They are transferred in.

You will typically require many years of education, experience and expertise in your field.

Most IT firms have a presence in LOS as do many banking and securities firms.

Thanks very much for the info penelope. I have an advanced degree in Physics and several years of Project Management experience within an IT firm, so based on what you have shared, I think I will focus my hunt on MN IT firms.

Thanks again

Getting a job here is not easy.

The employer has to show that you have skills he cannot find in the local market. The IT industry here has some pretty good people and plenty of mediocre ones as well.

As previously stated most expats are transfered in, and hold very senior jobs, or have very specialised skills.

As a "local expat" you will get a lower salary and few of the benefits that other expats get.

It can be done, but is not easy!!

Not hold you breath.
