I'm trying to find a school which will give me an intensive crash course in thai at the end of this year when I go to Chiangmai. I've got about 5-7 days only. Not looking to learn how to read or write, just purely conversational. I've already got some basic thai knowledge, but would like to move beyond simple sentences.

Does anyone know if there is such a course available in the Chiangmai area?

Many thanks...appreciate it.

Apart from private language schools (none of which I am familiar with), YMCA, AUA and Phayap University give classes in Thai - as far as I am aware, their regular classes are not crash courses though.

If you can not find a private institution that provides what you need, you will need to set something up yourself. I know some of the teachers at AUA Chiang Mai are willing to take on private tutoring so you could write to them and ask.

Realistically, I do not think you should expect too much. 5-7 days is a very short time in terms of language learning, which works best with regular practice - and all language courses I know of work according to that principle.

hi meadish...

thanks for your tips. yeah i am aware that a week is not a long time. i do get frequent exposures with thai people, but because i do not know how to formulate more complex sentences, i find myself very shy to converse with them. i can speak enough thai to save my life, get myself to an airport, bargain, etc....but beyond that, i can't seem to hold more serious conversations and hence i was hoping to get someone to teach me "intermediate street thai"...eg "if i tell u what i did wrong, u must promise not to laugh" or "by next monday, things will be different because i would have sorted through all the mess" sentences of that sort...

i will try to locate those private tutors. thanks again :o
