The last thread about the coastline got an answer (I hope, feel free to continue)

But it got thinking, how long is the ring road?

The tourist sites say from 40 to 53 km (maybe you can find other data)

What is the definition of ring road?

The tourist sites say you can reach all beaches from it.

My definition of the ring road is (Nathon, Maenam, Bophut, Chaweng, Lamai, and back to Nathon)

But if all beaches is in the ring road (for ex Chongmoen), is Tesco Lotus on the Ring Road?

:o

I just plotted the ringroad the same way I did with coastline.

It was the definition of the ring road (Nathon, Maenam, Bophut, Chaweng, Lamai, and back to Nathon)

And I was suprised that I got 50 km.

:D

WOW! another good question :D

last time it was about 50km........(with 16" wheels)

(depending on what vehicle you take for measure)

Just take your bike, drive around....and you will see with your own eyes how much is the length

of the samui main-ringroad.

But before you go, note your km-counter at start and endpoint (should be the same)

here is an example: start km 17350.0 / end km 17400.0

with this two numbers you have to do this calculation.....

17400.0 minus 17350.0 = 50.0 km :o

Why d'ont go around tomorrow?

enjoy.......

Who was talking about Choengmon being along the ringroad ? :o

And yes, I drove the ringroad quite a few times; suggest you have a better look at the pics from Google, measured and posted earlier.

On my rented motorcycle a few years ago it was 55.5 Km.

Still remember it because it was a special number. Don't know how accurate the odometer is. Probably a margin of around 10%

Another quiz.

What way around the ring road is the shorter:

Clocwise or counterclockwise

:o

The latter, of course... :D

What's the prize ? :D

"counterclockwise"

because drive thrue Nathon from north to south save about 300m, right?

or do you have another idea, why that's the shorter way is?

And you have to make an argument.

I have two in one direction.

Ok I'm ready with a bribe PS :D

Well, normally, since in Thailand people drive on the left side, clockwise would be a longer distance than counterclockwise.

I didn't however count the shorter way -straight- thru Nathon if you drive from Maenam side towards Nathon.

But if you take that into consideration it would indeed be shorter, apart from the left driving.

Whatever...but don't tell me you tried both ways, did you ? :D
