British Tourist Knocked Out by Pattaya Club Bouncer
Self-defense is an accepted defense at trial under Thai law. Sections 67, 68, and 69 of the Thai Criminal Code deal with self-defense, with Section 68 stating "such act is a lawful defense." https://library.siam-legal.com/thai-law/criminal-code-criminal-liability-sections-66-72/ Unfortunately the unofficial English translation of the Thai Criminal Code is very clumsy with some laughable mistakes, i. e., what should be "guilt" or even better "guilty" is given as "quilt." The Thai laws on self-defense are similar to English common law and modern U.K. criminal law. The test in both countries is that acts taken in defense against imminent danger are "reasonable" and "proportionate." This is different from the U.S., where 11 states mandate a "duty to retreat" before deadly force can be used in self-defense; 38 have "stand your ground" laws which don't require an attempt to retreat; and one state and the District of Columbia have a "mixed" law, with a duty to retreat under some circumstances and stand your ground under others. -

Chiang Mai burning rice fields
The air quality is poor and considered a health hazard. The air quality will remain poor well into Songkran. Saying that the air quality is better than in past years is irrelevant. It's like a person suffering from a flesh eating bacteria saying, it's much better today as only my legs are rotting and not my arms and legs. Currently, in Chiang Mai it is rather poor in most parts of the urban area. Here is a map https://www.iqair.com/ca/air-quality-map Air quality is also relative. Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai all have historically bad quality of air at this time of year. Even when the quality improves, it is still poor compared to other urban areas. Compare the current Chiang Mai ratings of PM2.5 - 46.8 µg/m³ to cities like; Singapore PM2.5 - 12.3 µg/m³, Naples - PM2.5 - 5 µg/m³, Fort Lauderdale PM2.5 - 4.2 µg/m³ and Panama PM2.5 - 7 µg/m³ and it is obvious that Chiang Mai suffers from poor quality air. The shocking aspect is that some will offer excuses and comments that it isn't that bad. It is. -

Using Thai retirement visa papers to open offshore account
You would use some standard document showing your Thai address. What is acceptable would be at discretion of each financial institution. Best to contact the bank you want to open an account with. Schwab will accept ID cards, utility bills, bank statements with your name and local address, and will have the document translated if not in English. With Schwab, my wifi used her Thai ID card, I used a bank statement from a US credit union. -
