Laos, Thailand cooperate in maintaining border security

Vientiane: -- Laos and Thailand have agreed on a number of measures to be taken to prevent elements who attempt to undermine the fine relationship between the two countries and who have recently used Thai territory to disturb Laos' border security.

This matter was discussed by the Laos-Thailand Committee for Safeguarding Border Security and Order at its 13th joint meeting held in Bangkok on Wednesday with the participation of the two countries' defence ministers.

Additionally, the two sides discussed military arrangement, joint patrols by the two countries' forces on the common border, the issue of citizens bearing dual nationality, the performance of public duties on the Mekong River, and the study and setting of markers on the common land border this year and on the common river of Mekong next year.

The two sides agreed that the implementation of agreements reached at the 12th meeting has made significant progress, from central to local level, contributing to the prompt solution of issues relating to border security, and maintaining order in much of the two countries' border areas
