November 30, 200718 yr Anyone know a Bangkok branch of Siam Commercial Bank that'll let you open a savings account without a work permit? I know there was a thread somewhere a while back mentioning some success with them along with the advice to just keep trying different branches until you find one that'll do it. Well, I've been turned down by five straight so far -- three in the Nana-Sukhumvit area, one near Victory Monument, and one more in MBK -- because I didn't have the WP. And yes I was dressed 'appropriately', etc. and spoke politely. I do need the account to be at Siam Commercial, though; another bank won't do, unfortunately.
November 30, 200718 yr I opened with them just my passport on a tourist visa at an up country branch, also opened internet access at the same time, Bangkok Bank I opened an account 2 years ago I still cannot get internet access
November 30, 200718 yr I think you should be able to open an account at the Ploenchit Branch. Across the parking lot from Burger King, between Chitlom/Langsuan and Ratchadamri.
December 3, 200718 yr y have to be siam commercial bank? Certain employers prefer to bank with SCB and ask their employees to open a bank account with SCB too, in order to transfer the salary. But several branches of this bank ask for a work permit plus a SCB customer's recommendation to open a savings account for you.
