Mother's/expecting Mother's Group In Chiangmai

Featured Replies

Hi

I am new to Chiangmai. I am looking to meet up with mothers and expectant mothers. I just found out I am pregnant and I would love to connect with people in the same situation. I have found a website for parents in Chiangmai, but the forums are full of pornography and do not address the topics listed. If you have any information mother's groups or if we can start a group if one doesn't exist, I am most definitely interested.

Thank you.

congratulations lulu, cna't help you with mother/baby groups in CM or even thailand but you should check out the babyexpert uk website as it has a lot of useful information for expectant women & mums. Althouhg it is mainly for Uk based mums, most of the questions you will have are universal :o

Hi, I found that website too, it's disgusting, I sent a complaint to the police. I don't understand why a company still provides hosting for it!

www.sanookbook.com is very good.

Thank you. Just checked it out. I also sent a complaint, but have heard nothing. Too bad as it seems like a good resource.

Huh.. I couldn't find anything untoward??

(And believe me, I tried!!! :o )

Anyway, when you say 'people in the same situation' would that be limited to Western mothers / expectant mothers?

Chanchao, I think you were looking at the URL provided (sanookbook) for the untoward content. However, I believe the poster was saying that sanookbook was actually the good and informative site, and the site with untoward content was left nameless. I did a search for "chiang mai parents" and found the unnamed site; went into their forums and yes, indeed, there is some very untoward content posted in the forums.

I don't think the owner of the site is posting the information. What happened is a spammer has basically hijacked the forums, probably using bots, and the owner isn't checking the content or doesn't care. The owner of the site has ads all over the pages and may be generating an income from it. So either the owner is making a bit of money from the ads and let it go, or just hasn't checked the site.

This happened on my website recently, with my virtual postcards function. Good thing, all the untoward content was simply for drugs like viagra, nothing pornographic. Since I didn't have time to investigate how to block the bots, I just disabled the entire function.

Anyway... I sent an email to the owner of the site to give him/her a heads up.

I contacted Google to let them know that the site appears to be violating their policies for Adsense, specifically in regards to pornography and ads for prescription drugs. If Google will pull their ads from the site, it might give the owner a push to fix or shut down the forums.

So... chanchao, if you want to judge for yourself how untoward the content is, you better hurry!

There are quite a few "play groups" for mothers and kids in the city. Your best bet is to try to connect through schools or one of the churches. The problem is that all play groups/prenant mother groups are all informal so you really just need to meet them.

We have a toddler and a two week old baby so we're definitely in these circles of people. Here are some other suggestions to help you out:

- Tumble Tots is used by some families (although a tad expensive)

- there are several music/dance clubs for young children.

- get the Sanook Book (it has resources for families)

- go to the Raintree (they have a resource guide for having babies in Chiang Mai).

By the same situation, I mean expectant mothers or mothers already, but certainly not limited to Western women. I just thought if a group exists or one could be created around the theme of mother/mother to be, that could be nice.
