Need Work Permit To Send Personal Effects?

Featured Replies

Is it true that one one needs a work permit in order to send personal effects to oneself in Thailand?

I have 1 year B visa but no work permit - will customs forbid me from collecting my stuff?

Yes, it is true, you need a WP and a confirmation that your permission to stay has been extented to one year. Such are the official rules.

You will not be forbidden to collect your stuff but cannot enjoy duty and tax exemption.

I think this is one of those easier said than done things, but I thought you could get stuff over tax free if you send it over within the first 6 months of your Visa extension (be it with WP or money etc.)?

I've had small care packages get through no problem, but I know others that haven't!

ok thanks - guess I should should send one package and see.... Any advice on how to label the contents - used personal effects of no commercial value for instance????

It is probably a good idea to have an agent negotiate the duty with the csutoms officers. He will know what is "reasonable".
