Can I Charge My Sony Battery

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

I just received a Digital Camera Sony DSC-W80 bougth in Canada.

Now I'm trying to figure out if I can charge the battery in Thailand with the included charger.

The battery charger from Canada is the Model BC-CSGB

It's written

~100-240V 50/60Hz 4.5-8.5VA 2.6W

To connect in the wall there's no problem! The connection are the same.

But I really don't know if I charge with it in Thailand concerning the electricity.

The same camera in Thailand come with the charger BC-CSG

So is there someone experimented on this that can help Me?

It will be seriously appreciated!

Thanks

Most portable electronics gadgets come with universal chargers, including your camera. It says 100-240V, so it can be used in both the US/Canada (110v) and Thailand/Europe (220V).

The answer is here: ~100-240V 50/60Hz 4.5-8.5VA 2.6W

And yes you can use it here as it is rated for both 110 and 220 volts (100V-240) and 50 and 60Hz

So simply plug it in and it will work.

Yeah that's what I was thinking also but been confused when I saw that in different country the charger model is different.

And also, in the Camera User Guide, it is written to use this charger inside US and Canada and for outside they show a different model.

So I think I'll try it with the original!

If it's written 240V, it should be ok!

Maybee the cycles can be different?

So thanks again Firefoxx!

Cheers!

Thats why your charger can be used on both 50hz and 60Hz systems.

I am willing to bet that the only difference between the different model chargers in different countries for your camera is only the plug. The guts are probably the same, or to the same specs.

The "universal" charger supplied with the camera will be fine

I doubt the USB will provide enough power to charge your camera.

Though I must admit that you can get specific charger cables to charge

mobile phones from the USB

I doubt the USB will provide enough power to charge your camera.

USB standards allow 500mA (.5 Amps) draw. Trickle charge is around 60mA, slow charge up to around 500mA+ and fast charge is 1Amp+ (based on NiMH or NiCD batteries) so shouldn't be an issue, just slower then from the main charger.
