Hi,

My gas 2,7 silver Fortuner has been stolen on 17/18th december in phuket.

I have a moovie (done by automatic camera at sarasin bridge ) showing the car leaving the island et 5h 24 am on 18th, so the car is no longer in phuket and should be either outside thailand or sold for parts?

But we never know if somebody sees it (plates are 7312) and call police the reward will be 50k no questions asked.minor scratch on the front left bumper

Thank you

How do they steal modern cars these days. With all the security I thought it was pretty much impossible, and have confidently left mine parked on the street outside my house for the last 2 years, comfortable in the knowledge that modern cars are pretty much 'un-nickable'. Did you leave the keys in it, or am I just way too naive about these things. I know in the UK that cars about 10 years old are the prime target for thieves as they are not so technically advanced.

Who said anything about money. He's offering 50000 baths.

I do have full western insurance but :

-it takes between 1 to 3 months to be reimbursed

- they reimburse you about 80% of the value they attributed to the car ( i cannot get how they estimate it yet) so i thing i am going to get something between 700 and 800K and a new one costs 1,2 and even a old one like mine ( 10 months old with 20k) cost 1million on second hand market so i wouls prefer recovering it.

On my next car i will put a code alarm independant from the key even if being stolen a car happens seldomly but it happens ..........

If any reader DOES know how "they" steal modern cars, please don't post it here and help aspiring "thems." You never know who reads this stuff!

On a practical note, and please excuse my ignorance, is the Fortuner 4 wheel drive? If so it may well be heading for Laos, Cambodia or Burma where most 4x4s stolen here in the north are sold. As it sounds like a "professional" theft, this is likely.

OP, I suggest you post the same appeal - and offer - in other relevant sections, if this is allowed. Probably too late already but, well, never know.

Only one? You should have one every 6 months whether you need it or not!

Sorry about your loss but as I advised on another thread, you can get your insurance upped from the standard 80% to 90% or even 95% for a couple of thousand baht. Well worth doing IMHO when you think 10% is about Bt100,000 on most vehicles.

In fact i have no idea on how my contract works because it was in the car and i dont have a copy :o

So i just filled the complain with their local representative in phuket and am waiting news the coming week

I think it's something all of us dread having the car stolen whether it's insured fully or not it's still going to cost you time and money.

Over the last few weeks I've been looking at the Tramigo T22 tracker it's about 14,000bt and will give a location of your vehicle i still need to do more research but could be a good investment.

Had 1 car stolen. It can be a right pain in the @ss, so I can understand how you will be feeling.

If, like me, the quote you get from the insurance company is nowhere near the true market value of the car, feel free to swear and curse ... I know the odd Thai swear word but cannot print them LOL.

Best theft deterrent is to keep a mean, nasty rotweiler in the passenger compartment.

That's what I do :o

....but three of themis even more safe:

Gerd

i cant even fit my bull terrier in the passenger compartment(called glovebox in uk) let alone 3 rotties.....rspca should be informed on this. :D

as to OP i would think with the number already changed then it will be looking for a needle in a hay stack.......about 1 in 3 cars is a fortuner, well thats what it seems.sorry to hear anyways

just buy a complete piece of crap to drive about in

no one will steal it as its that awful

plus you will save fuel as well as if its that bad you wont want to drive it either

Nice answer, and in addition you'll make a contribution to this poor planet. :o

Hmmmm. Maybe, maybe not.

The story is told of a rent collector in Liverpool (this is best told in a John Lennonlike tone) who pulled up to the kerb in his flash Merc to get out and start terrorising the tenants.

He carefully lowered 2 windows by a few centimeters to allow in the air for the most humungous German Shepherd you could imagine, standing at attention in the rear seat.

As he locked the car he became aware of 3 teenage layabouts propping up the wall nearby, observing his every move.

"Don't mess with the motor lads!" said he. "That dog can kill!"

"Oh yeah?" said the lead yobbo, unimpressed. "Puts out fires an' all, does he?"

Booom boooom!

Professional thieves in the UK can steal mostly any car within 60 seconds. Many in much less time.

Agree that almost any car within seconds. The Fortuner uses an immobilizer system that immobilizes the engine without an original key with a chip containing an encrypted code. The problem with modern technology is that kits are available on the internet that allow you to bypass most of these systems. A time consuming but very effective way to make your car theft resistant when parking it in a bad location is open the hood (bonnet) of your car and rearrange some ignition or ditributor wires before leaving the car (make sure you remember how to put them back into position or you will be in deep sh*t). The method I use is a little simpler though not quite as effective which is to just disconnect an ignition wire ( most thieves do not have much time and are not car mechanics so this simple method is very effective).

lets talk about GPS TRACKERS....

I saw few systems that avaliable inThailand .

Anyone have experience with one of these "gps tracker" ?

Mind you, he may have meant 50,000 physical baths as in the actual tubs themselves. No wonder he wants to get rid of them; wouldn't you?

Why someone should "steal" a Fortuner Petrol? They aren't famous. They looking for the Diesel Version usally. the sales value is higher, even for parts and the penalty is the same. Maybe consider to check your relaties. By the way, big Doggies are the best security! I had one too.
