Dvd + Rw

Featured Replies

Hi All

In my relentless quest to stay at the cutting edge of technology I started experimenting with a RW + DVD

Yes I have a DVD Re-Writable player. :o

The first time I burned some movies it was fine (Divx on DVD disk), the second time only a couple off movies would work. The third or fourth time nothing worked, no burning. Kept getting the message “insert writeable disk” even though the disk was in there.

I have Nero 8 and a couple of other basic burners but non of them would recognize the disk after a few burns.

I read somewhere that a Re-Writeable disk could be used like a floppy, again and again.

What is my problem? Only printable answer please there are ladies on this forum. :D

Not wishing to insult your intelligence, but you have erased the old contents before writing new? If not that it sounds like a bad disc. I also write DivX movies and AVi files to (Sony) DVD RW discs and have never had a problem - some of them are reused daily.

From memory I think the expected life is something like a 1000 burns.

No offence taken. Nero has an option to erase which I used but the disk got ejected half way through.

Also when I try to burn may get the message “this disk has data do you wish to erase first” or something like that so I’m guessing that is not the problem.

Perhaps it is the disk, I’m a bit of a cheap Charlie when it comes to non essential stuff (UK Government Pension - need I say more!) so the disk would not have been the best. A Ricoh if that means anything.

If I know the Re-Write thing works then it will be worth while to buy a better quality disk, though with the USB players coming on the market maybe that is the way to go.

I have panasonic DVD Re-Writable, they must be at least 6 - 7 years old and have written on them 100's of times, always use Nero different versions over the years

Yes I always ease old data/movies before burning new.

Friend has the same sort of problems, “insert writeable disk” after 3 or 4 uses, or it writes, but try to play and they get "Disc ERROR" or the film will jump or stop in the middle of a film, which I put down to buying cheaper Re-Writable DVDs

I have no idea, is it the make of disc? is it the make of DVD Writable burner ?.

It could be the discs, cause I bought some cheap ones from data IT , recently, and I have had a couple similar problems. Not so much with playback, but the same messages in Nero. It was as if it couldn't erase it properly. I kept doing it and it wouldn't finish the erase, then the info would still be on there. Anyway, I find if you keep trying to erase it , it works eventually. But I will buy better discs in future.

Daffy D:

try to use the program from this LINK for formatting. I use it if I get problems with other programs like Nero and others!

If you dont know how to use, send me an PM.

Thanks Reimar. I inserted my DVD+RW disk and first clicked on erase then when nothing seemed to be happening tried format and this is what I got.

Notice that drive “H” seems to be locked. This is the drive I use for burning.

All the time the CD was spinning light flashing but obviously nothing was recognized.

Guess it must be a bad disk.

Thanks

Check with an different DVD-RW! But keep in mind if that Disk is empty and/or foamtted, you will get an Error messages and if you click on that message it will tell you that the disk is empty.

If you still have a problem with formatting, check the Datacable from MB to DVD Drive and the Power cable as well!

I only have one DVD+RW (cheap Charlie!)

Earlier I Re-Wrote a CD and that worked OK

I think it must be the disk

I think most people use it same as me for burning downloaded movies to watch on TV then re-burn another movie.

Saves having buying a load of blank DVD’s – you just use the one again and again.

Merry Xmas
