Killings hurt image of police

Khao Sod Editorial : The Royal Thai Police Office (RTPO) was on the spot once again last week, when three suspects in the killing of three policemen were found shot dead under dubious circumstances after they offered to give themselves up. The mother of one of the suspects immediately accused the police of murder, while police investigators attributed the shootings to rival criminal gangs or accomplices who wanted to silence them. Accusations aside, the image of law enforcement officers has already been tainted by the scandal. To clear its image, the RTPO must launch a thorough and fair investigation into this matter. The three suspects might have criminal records, as claimed by a police investigator, but that is no justification for the police not to ensure justice for their families. Assigning blame will not help the RTPO, which has already faced public criticism over the deaths of at least 2,500 people in the war on drugs launched by the previous Thaksin government. The public wonders how many innocent people were eliminated in the so-called extra-judicial killings or other cases blamed by the police on rival criminals. I think the message has been clearly sent...if you want to live a long life, don't kill a Thai cop (or three). Sidewalk justice is not accepted in Western countries, but it is brutally efficient in the Third World.

but the efficiency often becomes too much so, meting out death sentences for such innocuous offenses as your namesake committed.

I agree 100%.

The difference between the police and the maffia is that the former doesn't kill everyone that cross them.

What do we have here?

Got off easy. Should have been a slower death.

Different values?

I believe someones life would be the ultimate price to pay.

I am pro-capitol punishment. But I do not believe in travel back to the "dark ages" when we punish someone.

Got off easy. Should have been a slower death.

:D

What do you know about the way they were killed or tortured to express such an opinion?

Do I see some similarities with the Far West here :o
