Glasses Repair Shop

Featured Replies

Anybody had any luck finding repair/replacement parts for broken glasses? My daughter ripped one of the arms of my glasses and all opticians I have visited have told me 'no have' when I ask if they can replace and quickly try to usher me over to the display counter for a new set of frames. The glasses cost me $300 in Australia so I am not keen to buy a new pair unless I have to.

I have already been through the sales spiel with the Thai opticians "only 8,000 baht but I give you discount 50%, include transistion lenses, total only 7,000 baht". "No thanks". "Okay, how about 5,000?".

Frames are expensive here. I brought a couple of spare frames for both myself and my wife to avoid this 'overpricing'?

Frames are cheap here you want to try the UK i get my eyes test there £23 and have the lenses and frames here. Bifocal and reactalite lenses UK £276 plus £150 for frames Bangkok lenses and frames Boss total B8000 got 2 pairs for 12500b .

In general, opticians don't repair frames anymore. There just aren't any replacement parts on the market. Modern high-tech materials can't be glued, welded or fused together like maybe 20 years ago. If your glasses can be repaired at all, my favourite shop, where I've been going for years, could probably do the job: Siam Optical, on Sukhumvit near Asoke. And if you need new ones, they do a first class job with more personal service than the chain stores (eg Top Charoen) and fair prices. 5000-7000 baht is good value.

If you are in BKK there are several places that I've gone and all on Silom Rd. Standing in front of Silom Complex about 7 small shops to the right you will see a small old grotty eye glass shop with frames in the window. At the base of the BTS stairs. I've gone to this guy for years and he fixes glasses very quickly and cheaply (I never spent more than 100baht). Two doors down their is a very high end optomotrist (can't remember the name) which looks like a Top Charoen or Beautiful Optics which is where my father went twice with the same problem as you and they fixed it two times for free!

As I said, expensive.

My wife wanted new frames same as old ones 3,000 baht here (about US$80?). In Seoul $20, bought her 2 pair for $35.

It's all relative, isn't it? In Europe, the same - or equivalent - frames might cost 250 euros - ca 12,500 baht.

I've just snapped one of the arms on my spec's while I was in the market a few minutes ago~

My vision is only about -2.75 so I can still find some pretty good glasses around (market, side stall etc...), but the majority of the time I use Contact Lenses.

Have you tried using those found in the market?

In the interim, I'll be using super-glue.

The arm is spring loaded. The strongest superglue in the whole world wouldn't hold it for my that 2 seconds.

The shops on Silom say they can fix but cannot replace the arm (no spare parts) so I bought a new pair.

There is a opticians shop in Chiang Mai near Art Cafe (2 shops down with a car rental in between) and Thapae Gate that fixes my glasses all the time. She just sold me a replacement arm for 300 baht and then glued another pair a few days later. I make sure to but ALL my frames and lenses from her as she is helpful and honest and most people go to the mall for glasses these days.

Better have flames spare whenever you go back HOME and none of this won't happen, meanwhile, you gotta pay the price, just for now and learn a lesson. And I'm sure there are a few design with reasonable price if you don't go for something flashy, again, just for now until you have found something suitable for your wallet.

Top Charoen offers a "membership" that includes free repair for glasses made there. It was included free in the purchace of my glasses, which were about 5,000 or so baht for frames that I was pretty happy with that haven't broken in two years.
