Visa Run Advice

Recommended Posts

I have a UK passport with a Non-Immigrant Type B multiple entry visa.

I am living in Thailand and normally I go away on business every month so I am well within the 90 day stay allowance, but I haven't been away for the past 84 days and now i'm approaching the time limit so I need to 'nip' over to Cambodia and back to get stamp.

Question: is it as easy as it sounds?....I just go to cambodia border.....go in......turn round.....come back in....get a 90 day stamp???......any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

I live near Kabinburi, so the border is only about 90 min drive.

Yes as simple as that. I think you will need a Visa to enter Cambodia. Can get on entry.

Others who do this will advise soon.

Yes it is easy as that. Do not forget your passport, neither a photograph and preferably US $ (it makes it cheaper) to buy the Cambodian Visa. You can leave Thailand at the date of the current Stamp to Stay

and come back straight away.

Flash500, from Kabinburi you will probably be heading to Sakaew province,

Aranyaprathet district. Cambodian town on the opposite side is Poi pet.

The offical fee stamped on the visa sticker is $20. But you will probably be

asked to pay 1,000 THB. The crossing usually involves some other form of

surcharge. Either they want you to pay an additional 200-300 baht for

returning to Thailand within the hour, or in the case of the Ban Laem

checkpoint, you are required to purchase a 200 THB ticket from the

fictitious "Thai - Cambodian Bus Company". As you are a holder of a non-b

This won't apply to you in any case.

There is casino on the Cambodian side of the border, it resembles a regular

wild-west town. But between all the impoverished children and land-mine

victims it's not a very comfortable experience.

With your own vehicle, you might want to consider driving a little farther south

to the Ban Laem checkpoint opposite Pong nam ron district Thailand. It is far

more pleasant, and there is a reasonably safe area to secure your car. I've been

to various Cambodian checkpoints literally 10 times in the last 14 months. Doing

the math, I think I've personally contributed $300+ to the save Cambodia fund.

If nothing else, it makes you appreciate how far Thailand has come with their

infrastructure. When you arrive at the Cambodian border, paved roads end. :o
